About Selah Christian Mental Health Counseling, LLC
For a long time, scholars have wrestled with the meaning of the word “Selah.” While there is still much disagreement, there is common ground that when the word is used, the readers are invited to pause and reflect. What’s fascinating, is how widely the word is used. For example, in Psalm 88 the writer says “For my soul of full of troubles … your wrath lies heavy upon me” and then follows it with “Selah.” In contrast, Psalm 3 declares “salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessings belong on your people,” and then again we see the word “Selah.” What this shows is that whether in our lowest valleys or our highest moments, God calls us to pause and reflect. Let’s be honest - life, even as Christians, can feel overwhelming and chaotic. It’s not always easy to slow down, to breathe, or to recognize the see goodness of Christ and the beauty of life. The noises of anxiety, weight of depression, shame of addiction, low view of self, and the struggles of everyday life can feel as though they are surrounding us.
In moments like these, I am reminded of the words of Samwise Gamgee - “But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.” Despite the trouble life brings, Jesus also reminds us of His words in John 16:33, in this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Selah Christian Mental Health Counseling exists to remind us to pause and reflect on the truth of God’s Word - the truth of who we are in Christ, the strength He has given us, His care for us and the restoration that can be found in Him.
Massachusetts continues to experience progress in their response to the high demands for mental health services. While there is a celebration for the state, there is a disparity between secular mental health services and Christian-based mental health services. Data shows that 52% of Massachusetts residents self-identify as Christian, in one way or another, therefore leaving the demand very high to have more faith-based clinically skilled practices.
